POSITION: Business Systems Administrator
LOCATION: Toronto, ON
STATUS: Full-time
REPORTS TO: Senior Manager, Integration Support Services

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

The Business Systems Administrator will be primarily responsible for providing support for the fixed income trading platform, CBID. The Administrator will also help recover, monitor and provide 2nd level troubleshooting for other business systems of CI Investments, Assante Wealth Management and Blackmont Capital. There will be some focus on application platforms and interfaces (application servers) as they relate to application administration.

It is critical for this individual to have working knowledge of the financial services industry and possess a general understanding of fixed income securities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide primary support for CBID, a proprietary online fixed income trading platform. This involves, in part, troubleshooting, implementing patches and assisting with implementing new processes related to the platform.
  • Administer and provide support for a variety of application systems and interfaces, including Epicor, NIAD, Eciss, Compass, FileNet and OnDemand.
  • Conduct change and release management (code releases, patches etc.), security and control for selected applications.
  • Responsible for monitoring, recovering, maintaining and upgrading selected applications and environments.
  • Provide on-call support for application-related issues.
  • Provide application assistance and support to other IT areas as required.
  • Update and maintain documentation as it relates to the application configuration, recovery, environments, monitoring, maintenance and support processes.
  • Co-ordinate and escalate items with other IT Infrastructure, internal application development teams and vendors as needed to meet service requirements.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Experience

  • At least 3 years experience of Business Application Support within an electronic trading environment, preferably involving Fixed Income.
  • A minimum of 3 years working experience in a UNIX and/or Windows systems environment.
  • Working experience in a middleware role in the financial services industry is an asset.

Education/Training

  • Completed university degree or college diploma in I.T., and/or equivalent applicable IT experience.
  • Completion of any financial services industry courses or programs (i.e. Canadian Securities Course) is an asset.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of Capital Markets (Fixed Income in particular) is required.
  • Solid analytical and troubleshooting abilities required.
  • Exceptional verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent technical aptitude and skills are a must.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong systems administration skills (including installing, configuring, tuning, troubleshooting) in the business application realm.
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to work independently.
  • General knowledge of UNIX operating systems (Solaris, AIX, Linux) is required.
  • Must have or be able to quickly develop sufficient knowledge of applications, tools, systems and database areas to perform regular administration, monitoring and support.
  • Some relevant work experience with Application Servers and Platforms, such as WebSphere, WebLogic, Tomcat or JBoss is an asset.
  • Some working knowledge of J2EE components is an asset.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (Unix shell, Perl, VB) is an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Routine office environment requiring incumbent to be working on a computer terminal for the majority of the scheduled workday.
  • Off-hour and weekend work will be required based on service and project requirements.
  • Will carry a Blackberry and participate in 7x24 On-Call support.
  • Holiday schedules may be limited during the RSP season or as a result of specific project needs.
